The vibrant community of PocketSmith Pals

When you sign-up for an online service you hope it's easy to use and then muddle your way through as best you can. Yet personal finance is complicated and everyone has their own way of organising their finances. We're not all accountants. We're just people trying to work it out.

The PocketSmith Pals group on Facebook has been instrumental in helping people figure out how best to organise their finances.

  • Group members are dedicated to answering each other's questions.

  • Threads are answered from with a few hours to a day or two.

  • Quick questions receive quick answers, others lead to clarifying questions and long back and forth, honing the best solution.

  • There are freelancers available that you can employ to consult on your PocketSmith setup, or to do the heavy lifting on the initial categorisation and budget setup.

It is reassuring to know you're not alone. We're all working it out and we're willing to share our experiences.

Here is a sample of the types of questions you might see on PocketSmith Pals:

How to handle loans

I have my everyday account, which my salary gets paid into and my mortgage payments come out of, and my home loan accounts loaded. In Pocketsmith, these are showing as an expense from one account and income into another so effectively just a transfer. What am I doing wrong?

Tax deductions

I’m new to PocketSmith from using pocketbook in previous years. Any tips on how I can easily detect my tax deductions?

Moving from GoodBudget

I'm just setting up PS, moving over from years on Good Budget. Does anyone who has done the same, have tips and advice?

Moving cities

I'm trying to figure out "scenarios". I am moving cities and possibly purchasing a house. Is there any way I can set up an entirely separate budget to see how this move would play out?

Tracking expenses

I have linked my bank accounts and created a budget for monthly and yearly expenses. How can I see my core monthly expenses and how much money I should be keeping aside for the yearly expenses?

Tracking gift income

Grandma and grandpa send money for each family member into our main bank account. I’m not sure the best way to keep track of it coming in and being spent.
